Small-scale model ‘Eco-scheme Farm Simulation’

Rationale of use

In the Netherlands, multiple models were employed to develop the 'Eco-scheme Farm Simulation', which was used to inform eco-regulation choices through the Dutch eco-point system.

Functioning

The tool evaluates the ecological and economic impacts of eco-schemes: - Assessment of potential ecological and economic effects on the basis of the first drafts: focus on agricultural structures, ecological effectiveness, and regional economic effects for individual farms. It also includes baseline descriptions, funding needs, and farm adjustment estimates - Assessment of potential ecological and economic effects on the basis of the first drafts: examination of eco-scheme implementation costs, farm size differences, and budget requirements, including the impact of low-input grassland management - Second assessment of budget requirements based on the Eco-Schemes as defined in the national law: consideration of different design options, premium levels, and potential uptake, accounting for assumptions and factors influencing the success of eco-schemes in achieving their goals.

Types of outputs

The tool provides scenarios with different premium amounts and estimates for measure claims and required budget.
