The European agricultural and forestry sectors are central to the digital and green transitions, facing increasing demands to improve efficiency, resilience, and sustainability. Proximal and remote sensing technologies — such as satellites, drones, and sensor-equipped machinery — are key tools to support smarter, data-driven decision-making across farm and forestry management.
This EU CAP Network workshop will explore how these technologies can enhance competitiveness, sustainability, and modernisation in line with CAP objectives. It will focus on practical applications, integration, and real-world experiences, creating space to discuss both the benefits and barriers to adoption, including cost, complexity, and data governance.
Participants will learn from EIP-AGRI Operational Groups, Horizon projects, and other initiatives showcasing how sensing technologies improve resource management, animal health, yields, and operational efficiency.
The specific objectives of this workshop are to:
- Identify common barriers to adoption, including technical, financial and social challenges.
- Showcase the concrete benefits and limitations of proximal and remote sensing. These include improving input management (such as water, fertilisers, and plant protection products), optimising yield, enhancing animal health and welfare, and simplifying farm operations and administrative tasks.
- Explore practical methods for integrating data from multiple sources (such as satellites, drones, and soil sensors) into farm decision-making platforms, including Farm Management Systems.
